Okay, so this is the first chapter of something I'm working on. There will be more to come later. Any criticism would be nice. Thank you. ;D

Chapter One: Road Block
The early morning fog was still hanging low about the rolling green hills of the countryside. A figure slowly walked across the hills. The man, Arkyth, was of a slight build, his eyes were darkened from the endless amount of battles they had seen, and his black robes, which resembled the outfit normally attributed to that of the ninja’s, were dirty from his days of travel. He wore a black mask over his head that covered all but his eyes, so that the only patch of skin was that of around his eyes. The long black sash around his waist was trailing behind him blowing in the wind.
The emerald green hills were the signature feature of this part of the country. Before the Great War people would flock to these hills. Of course people did a lot of things before the Great War that they wouldn’t do now. Before the Great War there were villages all across the land, but now villages were rare sites while outside the Sacred Walls.
After the Great War the Emperor ordered giant walls to be built around the great cities. These walls were built to keep the terrors out of the great cities. To enter the city you must have a pass from the Emperor saying that it was ok for you to enter. Before the war there were ten great cities. These cities did not have the Sacred Walls around them at the time.
The Palace of Argotroth was at the center of the ten great cities. Built for Emperor Argotroth, the palace is the most sacred landmark in all the lands. It would be impossible for one to enter uninvited. The Palace of Argotroth has the most powerful security system ever designed. It is said that not even Serjum the greatest thief in the lands could break into the palace.
Now only four of the great cities remain. After the Great War the Emperor ordered that all villagers leave their villages and move to the remaining four great cities. After the Sacred Walls were built it was uncommon to see a citizen of The Empire outside of a city.
Arkyth hadn’t seen the inside of the Sacred Walls for several weeks now. It seemed like just yesterday he was leaving the safety of the Sacred Walls to make his journey to the city of Rathyr. He was to meet a sage there by the name of Lukyn. It had been years since he had received an order from The Emperor, so when he received the order to meet with Lukyn he almost believed it a fake. After further investigation, however, he came to find that the order was not a fake at all.
The fog had come to pass, and now the sun could be seen peeking over the hills to the east. As usual there was not a cloud in the sky to offer shade from the oppressive heat of the sun. He pulled a black cloth over his eyes, shielding them from the sun, but still allowing him to see. Not a patch of skin was visible now. It would be another days worth of travel before Arkyth would reach the city of Rathyr, assuming that he did not run into any more delays along the way.
Voices drifted over the hill ahead and caught Arkyth’s attention. It had been weeks since he had last heard a voice that did not belong to himself, but he was not about to alert the voices of his presence. He crouched down and slowly moved in the direction of the voices. His movements were as graceful as the grass of the hills blowing in the wind. As he slowly moved up over the hill the voices became louder, and he could hear that there were only two people talking at that moment.
“I thought you said he would be here by now?” asked a scratchy voice from the other side of the hill.
“He should be here any moment now,” answered the deeper voice “You need to stop being so impatient.”
“I’m sorry but we’ve been waiting here for several hours, and he still hasn’t shown up.”
“Boss said that it would take Arkyth several weeks to get here.”
“If he doesn’t get here soon I’m giving up.”
“You know that if we don’t do our job our boss will kill us.”
“Yeah…”
He could now see the two men that were speaking. The man with the scratchy voice was a thin man with a short sword in one of his hands, and the man with the deep voice was a larger man with two battle axes. They were sitting around a campfire apparently waiting for him to arrive. He wasn’t sure who the two men were or why they were waiting for him. The letter he had received from The Emperor had not mentioned two men waiting for him outside of the Sacred Walls.
Slowly moving closer towards the two men he stood to make himself visible to them. As the two men looked up from the fire to see Arkyth standing in front of them their eyes widened.
“So he finally arrives,” said the thin man with the scratchy voice.
“Let’s not waste our time I don’t want to be outside the Sacred Walls longer than we have to” said the larger man with the deep voice.
Running at him, the man with the short sword raised his sword into the air and slashed at Arkyth with all his might. Arkyth rolled to the right and felt the blade of the thin man’s sword hit the ground next to his foot. His sword slid silently out of its sheath on his back. Lunging at the thin man his sword slid smoothly through the man’s stomach. As Arkyth stood there, his sword in the thin man’s stomach, a look of terror swept over the thin man’s face. He pulled his sword out of the man’s stomach and watched as he fell to the ground.
“Who the hell are you?” asked the man with the deep voice.
“You mean, what am I?”
The large man’s eyes widened as he realized what Arkyth meant.
“You’re-“
Arkyth jumped into the air flipping over the large man with the axe. He spun his sword above his head and brought it down in an arc slicing through the large man’s neck. His head slid of his neck and fell to the ground with a look of surprise still on its face. Arkyth stepped over the large man’s lifeless body and put the campfire out with a bucket of water sitting next to it. Once the fire was out he turned around, and continued on his journey to the city of Rathyr.
