I wrote this for those who served during the Viet Nam war.
War Song:
To distant lands they travel Different reasons for their being Ready to do as ordered Ready to die if needed Frightened yes they are But proud they stand for ever more (Optional opening)
Blood is pumping through the veins of the fighters And their minds are racing through the fires They run and hide in their ditches Praying they might survive this “Oh God help us”
Holding weapons tight Breathing smoke as the fires burn so bright Dreaming of that night When they held their family tight Telling children to behave While daddy is away Wives of soldiers start to cry Knowing loved ones just might die Fathers and mothers start to weep Sons are leaving over seas “Dear lord help them”
The soldiers fight all through the night Bullets flying, bright flaming light Soldiers crying, praying to their God Praying for the war to stop
These men will never be the same Not after so much death and pain These men will forever change Because they fought so brave They served their country and that’s why They are heroes in my eyes…

Sir Joe! Very good song. Mine own father was in the Vietnam war, methinks he could relate. He doesn't speak very much of it, I think he prefers to forget the horrors that he witnessed there. Well written!

Thanks Daena. I really love this song. And yes your right, most vets prefer to block out the past. My uncle and my grandpa were both in Nam, my grandpa was air force, my uncle was a medic in the army. My grandpa doesn't like to talk about it, my uncle doesn't mind. It all depends on the person.
