I felt each of my heavy footsteps hit the ground, my heart was pounding. I was sweating profusely, I dodged and weaved in between the branches and bushes. I heard Morgan’s screams and yells behind me. I assumed it had caught up to him. I contemplated whether to go back for him or not. I decided to go to his aid.
I dug my heels into the mud and started sprinting into the direction of Morgan’s cries. My eyes started to well up with tears as I realized that decision, could very well end my life. I thought of my mom and dad, calling my name in the streets not knowing where I had gone, and then with the help of the police finding my mangled body tucked awkwardly into the undergrowth, bitten by forest animals, and rotten from the elements.
I saw Morgan lying down, something stood on top of him as he struggled to get out from underneath it. I ran right up to the monster and tackled it right in the side driving it into the mud. I could feel its muscular body wiggling its way free from my vice grip.
It easily escaped my hold, and kicked me in the face, while I was stunned he jumped onto my back and start clawing my clothing away, then my skin, then my muscle. I wanted to wail and yell, but my vocal cords seemed to have frozen up, with no release, the pain of my flesh being ripped away in claw-fulls, was immeasurable. I tried desperately to get loose, but whatever was on top was heavy.
In the corner of my eye I saw Morgan slowly rise, his hands gripping a large stone, I could see that his thighs were bleeding profusely. The thing was enjoying himself feasting on my flesh far to much, to notice Morgan. His rose the stone above his head and brought it down, crushing the skull of our attacker.
I tried to stand but my back felt as if a fire had been lit on it. I started to cry, I was dying and I knew it, I was unable to help myself or Morgan. Rain start to fall lightly, then hard. Each drop stinging as it hit my back. The mud and water slowly rose until some of it made it into my nose and I started to choke on it. I closed my eyes, and imagined myself hugging my mom and dad again.
I saw light filter through my eyelids, interrupting my sweet illusion. I opened my eyes, the light was white and crisp, it hurt my eyes, I squinted trying to see who was coming. Someone grabbed the coller of my shirt and hauled me up, my voice seemed to have loosen up and I was finally able to let out a defining cry, I was thrown into the back of the car. The door closing loudly behind me seemed far away.
