Eragon was technically his first book published, both of them at the same time actually.

Sorry to be a party-pooper if I am being one, but I'm not such a fan of Paolini. I think that it is a great accomplishment he made, but at the same time I felt like it was an entire repeat of LOTR.
- Boy has to rise from being peasant to greatness - Falls in love w/ pretty elf (like Aragorn & Arwen) - Ultimate evil dude took control of the world previously, and it is an ongoing battle - Dwarves live in extensive caves, Elves live in enchanted wood - Orks & Urikai copied by whatever those beast things he had were called
I could go on, but I'd have to review some of the books, as it has been quite a while since I read it. Paolini's description is fantastic, but the book drags a ton. Sometimes there's just too much, like some of the HP books have been.
You probably won't find this so annoying, but Paolini is an idiot when it comes to horses! I absolutely abhor it! Eragon has only been riding for a few mere months and yet he can ride his teacher's stallion just dandily without any sort of trouble. Don't you think there's a reason that stallions are hard to come by in the horse world? A reason for why people figured out the whole gelding thing? It's because stallions are freaking crazy! Sure, some are better than others, but all stallions have their moments when they don't give a %$ about the person that is supposed to be in control. If you're in their way when they want to get to something like a mare in heat, you'd better say your prayers, 'cause you won't be long for the world. Not only is Eragon capable of handling a stallion because he's such a perfectly wonderful rider, but he blindfolds and ties the horse down on a raft for days on end! That is pure abuse, and no horse would allow it. They would flail ceaselessly, probably hurting themselves and any others around them. Even if by some miracle the horse would lie down blindfolded on a raft, it is not physically plausible. A horse's mass makes it unhealthy for the animal to lie down for long amounts of time. It hinders breathing and can cause colic, a serious intestinal condition that can be life-ending.
Thank you for reading my rants, and give yourself a pat on the back if you actually read all of it.

colic isnt that when you have problems releasing the gas that builds up in your intestines causing you immense pain and bloating?
alright first of all aragon wasnt a peasent boy. He did rise to be king, but that was a given right? the urukai thing yeah i agree, the horse thing, yeah i'll give you that. In LOTR the elves didnt live in woods they lived in like fantasy land with waterfalls and stuff, only one sect. lived in the woods, and every fantasy story has elves in the woods or in a fantasy land paradise. and dwarves are miners, its just a fantasy thing, its like a given.
but from waht i hear, paolini got alot of inspiration from other books.. tsk tsk lol w/e i think i shall still read it.

yes eragon elves are seen as only living in woods but tolkien did differ on the location of elves most of his elves actualy lived in the mountains thats why they were never found but dwarfs are bound for the ground
the horse thing i cannot disprove i know a horse with such a calibre as a stallion would not be so easily controlled but i think paolini may have missed out eragons mental contact with the stallion...

Eragon was poor, that's my point. He was poor and clueless as to the arts of battle and whatnot. Now he's a battle leader. Another thing that frustrates me, I think, is that one of my characters in one of my stories is similar... and I keep trying to fight my way around it. In the very end, he does not win entirely, however. He is enlisted into the army of an invading king on a conquest to unite several city-states into one country.
Oh yeah, the mental contact... I still don't think the horse would much appreciate it though. Even if I have the right language to talk to you, does that mean that I can request you to allow yourself to be blindfolded and tied down for several days with no clue of where you're being taken?
Yes, colic is a serious intestinal problem. In horses, it is far more life threatening however because they cannot vomit to release pressure. If it gets bad enough, the intestines convulse and become tangled, and a rupture can occur in the digestive tract, causing septic shock which we all should know is pretty much life-ending. One of my mom's horses died this way.

You are teasing me now, aren't you?
She didn't blindfold and tie down the horse to any raft! I meant that the horse just got colic...
